FINALLY got the chance to try out the famous Alpen Rose and we were VERY pleased with our mea! My friends and I made our reservation about a month in advance so if you're looking to try this spot out be sure to make a reservation in advance! When we arrived our table wasn't ready yet so we were ushered through the back of the resturant through a secret door connecting to Double Knot where we had a drink while we were waiting. Their espresso martinis are lovely! We got seated about 10 minutes after in a corner booth. The ambience of Alpen rose is very upscale and sexy! They have beautiful adorned chandeliers and dark wood surrounding the dining room. The resturant is quite small which allows for a comforting feeling when dining here! My friend Liz ordered an old fashion which was presented with a fun presentation of smoke. My friend John ordered a zero proof cocktail which he enjoyed and I ordered a glass of red wine recommend by our lovely waitress Tessa! It was a perfect pairing with the steaks we went with! For our appetizers we decided to go with the heirloom tomato salad, beef tartare, clover rolls and oysters Rockefeller! The tomato salad was so fresh and served over stracciatella cheese. Beef tartare was to die for! Great flavor and one of the best I've had in the city by far. My fave apps were by far the beef tartare and the oysters Rockefeller! Because our table wasn't ready upon arrival the kitchen sent us a shrimp cocktail on the house which was so nice! The cocktail sauce was made with fresh horseradish and was delicious! For our entrees we decided to share two mains and some sides! We ordered the beef Wellington and the tomahawk steak. Both were phenomenal! We ordered four sides to share for the table: creamed spinach, potato pave, mac & cheese and the onion rings. I LOVED the Mac and cheese. But also really enjoyed the creamed spinach and onion rings! I fell in love with the sauce served with the onion rings and beef Wellington as well! Be sure to check this spot out for your next friend get together, date night or a treat yourself kind of night! You won't be disappointed!
This dining experience was probably the best I had. Had reservations a month ahead of time. Luckily someone cancelled and we got an earlier reservation. The setting was nice, a rustic library feel. Servers were amazing. We got the tomahawk steak and it was worth every penny. The drinks were on point. Had one of the best old fashions. Sides were great. Ordered way too much so had to pack it up. This is a must dining experience and should be one everyone's bucket list.
Such a great spot for a special occasion. The main star is, of course, their meat - we went with the bone-in ribeye which was juicy, and the exterior was seared perfectly. Not a huge mushroom gal, but their forest mushrooms were so flavorful and paired well with the steak. And you can't go wrong with the oysters for a light app! We have to come back for all of their other food (just have to decide when since it is a very pricey place, so you have to choose the right occasion!). Also have to mention their eclectic decor, which is the cherry on top of the whole dining experience.
Alpen Rose is a hidden gem in Philadelphia, transporting diners to a cozy mountain chalet. The warm ambiance sets the stage for a delightful fusion of Alpine and American cuisine. Start with the creamy Swiss Fondue, share-worthy and indulgent, then savor the tender Veal Schnitzel paired with homemade spaetzle. The attentive staff and heavenly Apple Strudel dessert make this dining experience unforgettable, blending warmth, flavor, and charm.
Alpen Rose is an intimate restaurant with elements of drama. To celebrate my birthday, we arrived to an unassuming door with a rose and a bell. Upon ringing the bell, the hostess popped her head out of the window and asked for the name of our reservation (which is a must). Upon entering, we found an intimate dining area with a bar nestled in the corner, bookshelves in the background, and a view of the flames from the grill/kitchen (depending on where you sit). Our server Angelo was very attentive, personable, and gave great food and drink recommendations. Taking pictures inside felt like a disservice to the atmosphere, but here is what we had: Oysters Octopus salad Bone marrow toast Bone in robe eye Beef Wellington Pomme pave Carrots Seasonal pie with ice cream Everything was 10/10. EVERYTHING! It's in Center City so parking is a challenge but worth the walk from wherever you are fortunate enough to find a spot.
Just an overall awesome experience. Food and service were just amazing. Loved the speakeasy feel. Upscale but not pretentious. One of the best dining experiences we've had in Philly. We will return.
The location is hidden other than a rose on the door and a doorbell. There is one awkward seating right by the door that we initially got sat at (loud + sun shines on you every time they open the door), but they were quick to move us when we asked to switch spots. Staff was very attentive and polite, and they wrote a hand written card in celebration as well handed with the bill which was sweet. Bone Marrow Toast - one of their highly recommended items that was definitely very good Beef Tartare was amazing! probably my favorite item I tried that was not expected Creamed spinach - nice and rich, enjoyable Tomahawk steak - nice large piece that is fun to get. It was a little tougher than I expected but still enjoyable Baked Alaska - great for celebrations or experience a little flair with the fire, not amazing but decent Ambiance is dark lit lighting with a library wall. The pictures on the wall and the nonmatching tableware (cups, plates, etc.) make it feel very homey. It was designed to serve nonmatching sets as homage to a family member that collected and served tableware that was not from a set. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5
Came here for my birthday dinner and it was fantastic. This is a cozy intimate spot with an unforgettable dinner experience, especially if you sit at the bar. The service here is nothing short of impeccable; the bartenders are attentive, knowledgeable, and make you feel right at home. The steak is cooked to perfection, with a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. The branzino is equally impressive, offering a delightful balance of flavors and textures. For sides, the potatoes are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, the octopus is tender and well-seasoned, and the creamed spinach is rich and decadent. Finally cocktail #3 the tequila maple may be one of the best cocktails I have ever had. Finally, I would like to add that the food comes out so perfectly timed. They ask you to order all the food at once, but bring it out all separately. This steakhouse is must-visit for anyone who appreciates great food and excellent service. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a fantastic meal, this place delivers on all fronts.
This is the perfect restaurant to celebrate a special event. We celebrated our anniversary here and everything was perfect. You can believe the hype. Service was 5 stars. Our server was super friendly and very attentive. She even gave us a card for visiting! The restaurant was very cute and instagram worthy. I love that the restaurant was pretty much by reservation only and didn't feel too crowded even thought it wasn't that big. The food and drinks were all perfect to me. My husband steak was a bit salty but I suggested he sent it back and he didn't want to, so that's on him! lol We will definitely be back!
Long over due review! Top notch from first knock to finish! Always love the concept of secret places lol... but knocking to be let in is fun. Make sure to try and make reservations because a few people were turned away while we were waiting! The whole place is a vibe in itself. Loved the decor... the bookshelf.. and the bar area. We were seated at the bar. Always nice making conversation with the bar tender and asking for their opinion on what to get. Lots of great cocktails. The food is pretty good! Started with the bone marrow... only wish there was more! I went with the Beef Wellington, probably a tad under seasoned but still good.. and it was A LOT! Husband went with the lamb, which he said was just ok seasoned. He was a little bummed but the sides that came at least made up for it! Dessert was the apple pie which was HUGE! I'd definitely come back! Come for the experience, service, food and drinks! You won't regret coming!
